JOB: Tenure-Track Art History Position @ Grinnell College

GRINNELL COLLEGE – DEPARTMENT OF ART (18th-19th-CENTURY EUROPEAN ART HISTORY) – TENURE-TRACK POSITION (START FALL 2013).

GRINNELL COLLEGE.  Tenure-track position in the Department of Art: 18th-19th-Century European Art History, starting Fall 2013.  Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred; Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible.  Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college.  Art history and studio art form a combined program emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.  Important teaching resources include the college’s art collection, its gallery, and a print and drawing study room.  Applicant’s area should be 18th-19th century European, with strong secondary emphasis on non-European, non-western, or colonial/postcolonial art.  The College’s curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major.  The teaching schedule of five courses over two semesters in the first year will include three courses in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization and two sections of the thematic and cross-cultural introduction to art history.  In subsequent years there will be the expectation of teaching (in rotation with other art history faculty) the exhibition seminar and the senior seminar.  Every few years one course will be a Tutorial (a writing/critical thinking course for first-year students, oriented toward a special topic of the instructor’s choice).

University in Miami seeks a full-time, tenure-track art historian at
the Assistant Professor level who specializes in art outside of the
Euro-American tradition (such as historical Art of the Americas,

research interests in both historical and contemporary issues in their
area of expertise. Interaction with MFA and BFA candidates, including
participation in critiques and studio visits, is expected.

Nominations and applications are invited for this endowed chair.  The Murphy Professor will join a large and diversified department with an established PhD program and rich undergraduate curriculum.  The University of Kansas, with more than 27,000 students and 1,500 faculty on the Lawrence campus, is the major educational and research institution in the state.  The university has a full complement of 15 art and architectural historians in Asian and Western art.  Endowments support active visiting lecturer programs, teaching initiatives, and research travel for faculty and doctoral candidates.  The department is located in the Spencer Museum of Art, the collections and exhibitions of which provide a foundation for introductory and graduate course work.  The Murphy Library of Art and Architecture, with holdings of over 170,000 volumes, and a large visual resources collection offer essential support of research and instruction.

The Murphy Professor will exercise leadership in research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervise theses and dissertations.  S/he is expected to promote interaction among scholars in related fields and to provide service to the department, the university and the profession.  The position will be awarded with tenure and is endowed with substantial research support; a reduced teaching load is expected to yield substantial and continuing research productivity.
The search is open to any art historical specialization. Candidates should have a distinguished international reputation for research and publication in their area of specialization. JOB: Assistant Professor, American Studies Program @ Smith College

The American Studies Program at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  This position will be housed in the American Studies Program; its occupant will contribute two of four yearly courses to the Department of History. Candidates must be well prepared to teach the range of theoretical and methodological questions, both established and emerging, central to American Studies scholarship, and they should be prepared to teach an Early American survey in the History department.
